Los días 9 y 10 de Julio se celebró en el Centro de Excelencia del Centro Nacional de Golf (CNG) de Madrid, un importante congreso de profesionales que ha servido para constituir el Gremio de Clubmakers Españoles.

La asociación contribuirá a organizar el colectivo en España, bajo las directrices de la International Clubmakers Guild (ICG), y dotarse de más fuerza en las relaciones con los fabricantes y proveedores de material y componentes de golf, así como con los estamentos y organismos oficiales, y también promoverá la información de las ventajas del palo a medida entre los golfistas. Un total de 28 profesionales acudieron a la cita convocada por Agustín Sánchez, vicepresidente de la ICG para la sección de España e Hispanoamérica, que contó con la colaboración de Ian McGuinness (ICG). El gremio se ha constituido con 15 de los profesionales miembros de la ICG presentes, mientras que el resto asistieron con intención de titularse y entrar en la asociación.

En la mesa rectora entran los cuatro profesionales españoles titulados por la ICG, que son Agustín Sánchez (GOLF Inteligente), Miki Rapado (Handmade Custom Clubs), Gabriel Sota (Gabriel Sota Clubmaker) y Mateo Noël (FIT & GOLF). Como primeras acciones del Gremio de Clubmakers Españoles se han creado las comisiones de Formación, Relaciones Institucionales, Registro de profesionales españoles y Comunicación con los jugadores. En este sentido, se ha puesto en marcha la formalización de las titulaciones. Ahora que ya están traducidos al castellano todos los exámenes de la ICG, los interesados van a poder hacer en próximas fechas las pruebas para alcanzar la categoría que regularice su trabajo bajo los estándares marcados por la asociación internacional. Se espera, de este modo, seguir creciendo en el número de asociados.

Además, se han definido y diferenciado las funciones de ‘clubfitter’ y ‘clubmaker’ que entran dentro de la asociación:
•Clubfitter, como el que diagnostica qué tipo de material le hace falta a un jugador en función de los parámetros medidos.
•Clubmaker, como el que fabrica y monta los palos en función de los parámetros que recibe del clubfitter.
Por supuesto, hay profesionales que están formados en ambas funciones.

Durante el fin de semana del congreso también se desarrollaron diferentes ponencias y mesas redondas de formación para los profesionales asistentes:
•Agustín Sánchez explicó la ‘Flexibilidad de varillas en el fitting’.
•Gabriel Sota desarrolló el ‘Fitting de putter’.
•El árbitro internacional Xavier Burjachs expuso y detalló lo que dicen las Reglas de Golf oficiales sobre los palos de golf.
•Alejandro del Rey, distribuidor de FlightScope en España, aclaró la interpretación de las curvas de aceleración y velocidad del swing con el monitor de lanzamiento.
•Miki Rapado profundizó en el ‘Fitting para Júniors’.
•Borja Fernandez de Bobadilla disertó sobre la compatibilidad de las cabezas con las varillas.
•Y Julio Pérez describió cómo evaluar la condición física del jugador antes de hacerle el fitting.

Y el lunes, quienes se quedaron en Madrid, aún pudieron disfrutar de una salida al campo y jugar un torneo de golf.

Last weekend, July 9th and 10th, an important congress was held at the Center of Excellence National Golf Center (CNG) in Madrid, Spain. The Spanish Clubmakers Guild was officially announced at this congress.

The partnership will help organize the group in Spain, under the guidelines of the International Clubmakers Guild (ICG), and equip itself with stronger relationships with manufacturers and suppliers of golf materials and components, as well as promote the benefits of customized clubs amonst golfers. A total of 28 professionals attended the meeting convened by Agustin Sanchez, vice president of the ICG for the section of Spain and Latin America, and also in collaboration with Ian McGuinness (ICG). The guild was made up of 15 professional members of the ICG, while the rest in attendance are in the process of entering the association.

In the governing board enter the four Spanish professionals certified by the ICG, which are Agustin Sanchez (GOLFinteligente), Miki Rapado (Handmade Custom Clubs), Gabriel Sota (Gabriel Sota Clubmaker) and Matthew Noël (FIT & GOLF). As first point of action for the newly formed guild was the creation of the Training, Institutional Relations, Registration and Communication with players committees. With the creation of these committees, the officiality of the certification process has been established. Now that the ICG exams can be found in Spanish, stakeholders will now be able to take certification tests under the standards set by the international association. With the establishment of formalized and standardized testing, it is hoped that membership into the organization will expand.

In addition, the functions and differences between “clubfitter” and “clubmaker” have been defined:
• Clubfitter, the diagnosis of the type of material a golfer will need based on measured parameters.
• Clubmaker, the production of the clubs a golfer will need based on the clubfitter’s measured parameters.
Of course, there are professionals who are trained in both.

During the congress weekend different presentations and training panel discussions were held for professionals attending:
• Agustin Sanchez explained ‘Shafts’ Flexibility in Fitting’.
• Gabriel Sota developed 'The Fitting of Putter’.
• The international referee Xavier Burjachs exposed and detailed what the official rules in golf say about golf clubs.
• Alejandro del Rey, FlightScope distributor in Spain, clarified the interpretation of the curves of acceleration and speed swing with the launch monitor.
• Miki Rapado delved into the 'Fitting for Juniors.
• Borja Fernandez de Bobadilla spoke on the compatibility of heads with shafts.
• And Julio Perez described how to assess the physical condition of the player before making the fitting.

And on Monday, those staying in Madrid, they went out and enjoyed a round of golf.
